Spain’s former King Juan Carlos has launched a scathing attack on Diana, Princess of Wales, branding her as “cold” in his forthcoming explosive memoir.
The 87-year-old ex-monarch, whose personal life has been mired in scandal for decades, allegedly made these harsh comments about his interactions with the beloved late Royal.
During the late 1980s, then Prince Charles and Diana made official visits to Marivent Palace in Mallorca, the Spanish Royal Family’s summer residence.
Reports at the time suggested Juan Carlos had developed a personal fascination with the Princess, although no evidence of any wrongdoing was ever established.
His upcoming book, Reconciliation, allegedly depicts Diana as “cold”, “taciturn,” and “distant” whenever photographers were present.
The former monarch has been persistently plagued by allegations of adultery and whispers of romantic entanglements with celebrities and film stars.
His standing suffered another devastating blow from financial controversies that eventually forced his abdication in 2014. Royal biographer Andrew Morton illuminated the bond between the two Royal families in his groundbreaking 1992 work Diana: Her True Story.
Over two decades later, in 2013, he released Ladies of Spain, delving into the private lives of the nation’s most influential women.
In the book, Morton quoted Diana as characterizing Juan Carlos as “a very libidinous man.”
The Princess is also said to have confided to friends, “I felt uncomfortable being left alone with him in a room, although I can assure you that nothing happened.”
The comment was reportedly made after one of her trips to Mallorca.
Juan Carlos has now attempted to silence decades of rumors in his forthcoming memoir, Reconciliation, refuting persistent claims of a romantic liaison with the late Princess.
The former king reigned over Spain from 1975 to 2014. In 2020, he departed Spain for Abu Dhabi, where he currently resides in voluntary exile amid financial probes and waning public backing.
Since his relocation, Juan Carlos has visited Spain only sporadically – most recently to participate in sailing competitions.
