My own movie, 1920, gave me some really scary memories. When we were filming it, I kept showing off to everyone, saying I never get scared of ghosts. There was a scene where I was possessed and had to climb a 50-foot pillar, and I watched lizard and reptile videos to get inspired by their body language. That night, I had a nightmare — of turning into a lizard with scales — it was so real! It became a recurring dream and was absolutely horrible.

While growing up, I watched this horror-romantic film, 100 Days, and it gave me sleepless nights. I was honestly scared after watching it! There was this character named Jagmohan — he really scared me. The film starred Jackie Shroff, Javed Jaffrey and Madhuri Dixit, and it’s one of those movies that stayed with me for a long time.

Vidya Balan’s Manjulika from Bhool Bhulaiyaa (Part One) is iconic. Watching her in that role gives me goosebumps even today, and I have to say that the incredible actress that she is, she played the part brilliantly. The way she switched between vulnerability and madness with such ease, was mesmerising to watch. It’s one of those performances that stays with you long after the film ends.

One of my favourites is the 2002 film Raaz. Don’t know why, but as a kid, whenever I watched it, the film scared me. Especially the sequence where Bipasha Basu’s hair used to fly. It’s funny that post the film, I would observe if people’s hair would actually fly or not. That’s the kind of impact that movie left on me as a kid.

I absolutely loved Tumbbad, it’s a horror fantasy film. I am so glad it was re-released last year — watching it again on the big screen was such a treat. I’m a huge fan of horror films that really manage to scare you, and Tumbbad does that brilliantly.
