Celia Imrie has put some wind in the sails of The Celebrity Traitors’ viewing figures.
The British actress, known for her work in Bridget Jones and Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, provided one of the TV moments of the year when she passed wind before undertaking a challenge.
The audible fart had fellow castmates, including Dept. Q star Mark Bonnar, falling about laughing. “I’m so sorry,” Imrie exclaimed. “It’s nerves, but I always own up.”
It helped lift The Celebrity Traitors’ ratings to a series high of 6.9M viewers on Wednesday night, which was 900,000 viewers up on the premiere episode last week.
The impressive audience figure was not enough to trump The Traitors‘ best-ever overnight audience of 7.4M on BBC One in January, but it suggests the show could beat this record as it continues.
Wednesday night’s episode chronicled three eliminations, hitting a five-minute peak audience of 7.1M, per official BARB figures supplied by overnights.tv.
The Celebrity Traitors is proving to be that rare thing: an appointment to view show that the nation is watching together. Its importance to the BBC is underscored by the fact that the corporation is using the series to promote a raft of other content before each episode airs.
