Morrissey has cancelled a pair of Mexico shows at the last minute due to “extreme exhaustion”.

The former Smiths frontman had been due to play at Mexico City’s Palacio De Los Deportes yesterday (October 31) and the Auditorio Telmex near Guadalajara on Tuesday (November 4), but an Instagram statement from promoter Ocesa confirmed yesterday that the shows could not go ahead.

The announcement confirmed that the decision had been made as a result of “the artist’s extreme exhaustion”, and that all tickets bought online will be refunded automatically, while tickets purchased via Ticketmaster or at the box office will be available for refund from the point of purchase from November 7.

Morrissey has not issued a statement, other than posting a link to his 1992 single ‘I Know It’s Gonna Happen Someday’ on his website, along with Mexican emojis.

He is scheduled to play in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Colombia in the next three weeks and there has been no update on the status of those shows. See all the dates in the Instagram post below.

These are far from the first Morrissey shows to be cancelled or postponed in recent months – in April, he called off two US shows after being hospitalised with “a severe sinusitis attack”, while a show in Stockholm in June was cancelled after the singer said his band were “travel-weary beyond belief” and had received “zero music industry support”.

In September, two more gigs in the US were called off after a “credible threat” was made on Morrissey’s life on Bluesky, while last month, two gigs in Turkey were cancelled, with fans speculating that they were scrapped due to the singer’s apparent support of Israel.

Morrissey recently announced his sole UK gig for 2026, to take place at The O2 in London on February 28 – find any remaining tickets for that show here.

Elsewhere, he took to his website earlier this year to confirm that he had “no choice but to offer for sale all of his business interests” in The Smiths to any potential investors or parties.

He explained: “I am burnt out by any and all connections to [Johnny] Marr, [Andy] Rourke, [Mike] Joyce. I have had enough of malicious associations. With my entire life I have paid my rightful dues to these songs and these images. I would now like to live disassociated from those who wish me nothing but ill-will and destruction, and this is the only resolution.”

A subsequent update announced that the email address for offers had been “switched off” due to a “colossal response”.

It comes after Morrissey claimed last summer that AEG Entertainment offered the surviving Smiths’ members “a lucrative offer” to organise a worldwide tour. This, the singer claimed, was something he was interested in pursuing, but ultimately fell through as “Marr ignored the offer”.

In June, Johnny Marr spoke about why he turned down an “eye-watering” amount of money to play a Smiths reunion. “It was a little bit about principles, but I’m not an idiot, I just think the vibe’s not right,” he said.

Morrissey also recently revealed that he had “politely declined” an invitation to perform at Reform UK’s party conference.
