A comedy special that filmed in Wilmington over the summer is getting ready to premiere on the world’s biggest streaming service.
In June, Cape Fear Community College’s Wilson Center hosted four sold-out shows by comic Leanne Morgan and its first-ever taping of a Netflix comedy special: Morgan’s “Unspeakable Things,” which comes out Nov. 4.
“This Leanne Morgan thing is the biggest feather in our cap,” said CFCC Wilson Center Executive Director Zach Pluer said. “Of all the Live Nation venues, of all the well-known comedy clubs in the country that one of the top-three-grossing comedians in the world right now could have chosen to film her stand-up special, she chose the Wilson Center.”
“On top of the filming this was a record-breaker for us for a comedy show,” Pluer added, with four sold-out performances.
A trailer for the special doesn’t show much of the Wilson Center, but it does feature Morgan, who’s known for her frank, Southern-style humor, talking about the challenges of marriage and raising childre
Morgan’s first Netflix special, “I’m Every Woman,” hit the streaming service in 2023. She also has a scripted comedy series on Netflix titled “Leanne.”
Morgan regularly sells out theaters nationwide and appears on various podcasts and talk shows as a sought-after guest. The Tennessee native published her first book, “What in the World?”, in 2024 and it became a New York Times best seller.
