Lily James says she gets a little stunned every time she watches the 1979 film “Alien.” The Baby Driver actress relates not only to the story but also to one of the characters. She spotted a familiar voice on the spaceship Nostromo, which was her grandmother, Helen Horton. Horton gave her voice to the ship’s computer called Mother. James says that realizing that connection often stops her in her tracks.

Lily James revealed that she was thinking of Sigourney Weaver as an inspiration for a role. However, this is when she watched Alien again and realized who was talking from the ship.
She explained, “I was watching it recently because I was thinking of Sigourney Weaver as an inspiration for a role I was hoping to play,” she says. “And I do just stop in my tracks every time, like, ‘My God, this is crazy, that’s my grandma!’” (via The Independent)
In earlier interviews, James has spoken about how her grandmother’s career and voice were a part of her upbringing. She once said that her grandmother was full of grace and a “bone structure to die for.” She also talked about her American accent, which was so old that it sounded almost like English.
Lily James then talked about how she has never played the grandmother card ever; however, she did use it once to impress the Baby Driver director Edgar Wright. She revealed, “The only time I’ve really played that card was to impress Edgar Wright. Like, ‘I don’t know if you know, but my grandmother…’ And being the biggest film obsessive, and having seen everything, he just thought it was so cool!”
Lily James was cast in ‘Baby Driver’ alongside Ansel Elgort, who reprised the roles of Debora and Baby, respectively. Edgar Wright had written and directed the film. James has also starred in ‘Pam & Tommy’ and her most recent film, ‘Relay,’ is now in cinemas.
