BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — Fells Point residents remain on edge following a weekend shooting in one of Baltimore’s busiest entertainment districts.
Around 1:30am on Sunday, just before the bars were set to close, gunfire erupted along South Broadway Street.
Residents FOX45 spoke with say it’s just the latest sign the area’s reputation for safety is slipping.
“That is scary,” said city resident Margenna Collymore-Bey. “It really deters you from even wanting to come out and spend money. It’s like, I can just stay in the house and enjoy the stuff at home.”
Cell phone video captures an intense fight breaking out between two groups. Baltimore police can be seen stepping in to break it up, but witnesses claim someone came back with a gun and started firing.
A 17-year-old girl and 24-year-old man were shot along the popular stretch of bars and restaurants.
According to Baltimore Police Department, both victims were rushed to the hospital.
The girl has since been released, while the man remains in critical condition.
As for the suspect, police say the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
The violence comes as Mayor Brandon Scott continues to tout a record drop in homicides and shootings compared to this time last year.
It is progress that some city residents say they’re still waiting to feel firsthand.
“It’s getting worse, like I moved down here five years ago, and I’m definitely seeing an increase in crime,” said Collymore-Bey.
“it’s much worse,” said Michael Doherty, another area resident. “We would love to hear much more from City Hall, and don’t give us statistics that are dry statistics. Those people were not dry statistics who were victims the other evening.”
