Two decades after Twilight first became a cultural phenomenon, Robert Pattinson still can’t believe the hold it continues to have on audiences.
While promoting his new film Die My Love at its New York City premiere on Saturday, November 1, the 39-year-old actor reflected on the series that launched him into global stardom. “That’s amazing. I mean, I can’t believe the legs, the cultural legs that that movie’s had,” he told Extra. “I mean, it’s just mind-blowing to me, but it’s so cool. There’s so few things from that period which we still talk about. I get asked about it every single day, which is amazing and, you know, I have such fond memories about the whole thing. I’m just so grateful for it.”
Pattinson starred as Edward Cullen in all five Twilight films from 2008 to 2012, alongside Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, and Ashley Greene. Adapted from Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novels, the saga became a defining pop culture moment of the late 2000s — inspiring global fandoms, box office success, and years of debate over Team Edward vs. Team Jacob.
Though he’s since taken on darker, more complex roles in films like The Batman and Good Time, Pattinson’s appreciation for the franchise that made him a household name has only deepened. What was once a role he famously had mixed feelings about has become something he looks back on with gratitude. “I have such fond memories about the whole thing,” he emphasized to the outlet. “I’m just so grateful for it.”
Even as he extends his career in film, Pattinson appears to be quietly making another creative move. Reports show he has registered seven solo songs with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP). While no release date has been announced, the listings have sparked fan speculation that the actor may be preparing to launch a music project.
Die My Love is set to be released in theaters on Friday, November 7.
