The singer for an iconic rock band has died.
She was 78 years old.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, the family of Donna Jean Godchaux -MacKay confirmed the vocalist died on Sunday at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee “after a lengthy struggle with cancer.”
People states that many might recognize Godchaux-MacKay — whose musical career spanned over the course of about six decades — as a singer for the Grateful Dead.

Variety adds that the Florence, Alabama native also served as a backup singer Elvis Presley, and worked as a session singer in Muscle Shoals.
“North Alabama legend,” reads a comment on X.
“Jehovah’s favorite choir just added some ‘Bama beat to the Heavenly setlist,” echoes another.
“She was a sweet and warmly beautiful spirit, and all those who knew her are united in loss,” the family statement reads. “The family requests privacy at this time of grieving.
“In the words of Dead lyricist Robert Hunter, ‘May the four winds blow her safely home.’”
