The most exciting release on the TV side is, perhaps, the final season of “Stranger Things,” which, after a three-year hiatus, commences with the first batch of episodes in Volume 1. The sci-fi phenomenon will conclude with Volumes 2 and 3 in December.

Meanwhile, for films, Guillermo del Toro’s years-in-the-making adaptation of “Frankenstein,” starring Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth, is finally hitting the streamer after much anticipation. Plus, Netflix will debut revealing documentaries about two monumental entertainment figures: Eddie Murphy and Selena Quintanilla.

There are also a handful of fan-favorite series returning with new seasons, including “The Vince Staples Show,” “A Man on the Inside” and the “Selling Sunset” spinoff, “Selling the OC.”

Whether you’re looking for your next binge-watch or a Christmas rom-com to get in the holiday spirit early, Netflix has you covered with tons of shows and movies this month.

‘Squid Game: The Challenge’ Season 2

The real-life game show based on “Squid Game” is back for another high-stakes competition in Season 2. This time, another 456 contestants from around the globe will “enter the ultimate test of strategy, alliances and endurance as they compete for a life-changing $4.56 million prize,” the logline states. Meet all the players here.

‘The Vince Staples Show’ Season 2

Vince Staples entered the pantheon of rappers with their own TV shows last year with his eponymous satirical comedy. Now the hit series is back for Season 2, which finds Vince searching for inner peace after a tragic family death. However, his journey forward is filled with reminders of his haunting past.

In addition to Staples, the cast includes recurring stars Vanessa Bell Calloway and Naté Jones, plus guest star Zack Fox.

After its 50-plus-year run on the air, “Sesame Street” is starting a new era on Netflix. The beloved children’s show is set to debut its first season on the streamer this month after HBO Max opted not to renew it late last year. New episodes, which will roll out in three volumes, will feature celebrity guests, immersive stories and a brand-new animated segment for its young viewers.

‘Selling the OC’ Season 4

Selling real estate has never been messier than in Season 4 of “Selling the OC.” The Oppenheim Group spinoff returns with new players, more luxury listings and, of course, plenty of gossip-fueled drama as competition among the OC agents heats up.

Returning cast members include Jason Oppenheim, Alex Hall, Polly Brindle, Tyler Stanaland, Gio Helou, Austin Victoria and Brandi Marshall. Meanwhile, new agents joining the group are Fiona Belle, Ashtyn Zerboni and Kaylee Ricciardi.

“The Beast in Me” is a new heart-pounding thriller starring Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys. In the eight-episode drama, acclaimed author Aggie Wiggs (Danes) is grief-stricken and searching for purpose when she finds an unlikely subject for a new book: her next-door neighbor, Nile Jarvis (Rhys), a famed real estate mogul who was once accused of murder. When Aggie’s obsession with him turns toxic, a near-deadly game of cat and mouse ensues.

Brittany Snow and Natalie Morales also star in the series, along with guest stars Jonathan Banks, David Lyons, Tim Guinee, Hettienne Park, Deidre O’Connell, Aleyse Shannon, Will Brill, Kate Burton, Bill Irwin, Amir Arison and Julie Ann Emery.

‘Last Samurai Standing’

Netflix’s latest Japanese epic sets its sights on the post-glory days of the samurai. In “Last Samurai Standing,” “292 fallen samurai — facing poverty, a pandemic, and a new regime that has rendered them relics — are lured into a violent game called Kodoku, in which the last competitor left alive will claim a life-changing cash prize,” the logline states. The six-episode series is based on Shogo Imamura’s best-selling novel “Ikusagami.”

Ted Danson is back on the case in Season 2 of “A Man on the Inside.” The comedy stars the actor as retired professor-turned-private eye Charles, who gets a new lease on life when he’s recruited as an undercover agent. In the second season, Charles is tasked with going undercover on campus at Wheeler College, where some new faces join him.

Danson, Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz and Stephen McKinley Henderson all return in Season 2. New cast members include Gary Cole, Michaela Conlin, Max Greenfield, Sam Huntington, Jason Mantzoukas, Constance Marie, David Strathairn, Jill Talley, Madison Hu, Lisa Gilroy, Linda Park and Mary Steenburgen.

‘Stranger Things’ Season 5: Vol. 1

The beginning of the end of “Stranger Things” kicks off this month. In the fifth and final season, the Hawkins crew is back together and ready to face Vecna. But their mission gets complicated after the government places their town under military quarantine and intensifies its hunt for Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown). With the final battle looming and a darkness unlike anything they’ve encountered before, the group will need to lean on everyone to end this nightmare.

The Season 5 ensemble cast includes Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, Brett Gelman, Jamie Campbell Bower, Winona Ryder and David Harbour.

Movies

Guillermo del Toro puts his own spin on Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein” in his forthcoming adaptation. According to the film’s logline, it follows “a brilliant but egotistical scientist, who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.”

Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth star in the ensemble cast, along with Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, Christian Convery, Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz.

‘A Merry Little Ex-Mas’

“A Merry Little Ex-Mas” is the latest addition to Netflix’s holiday rom-com universe. In the film, all exes Kate (Alicia Silverstone) and Everett (Oliver Hudson) want for Christmas is one last family holiday with their kids after their recent divorce. But when Everett unexpectedly introduces his young, successful new girlfriend, the jolly festivities turn into utter chaos.

Also in the cast are Jameela Jamil, Pierson Fodé and Melissa Joan Hart.

Eddie Murphy peels back the curtain on his life in his new documentary, “Being Eddie.” From his breakout success on “Saturday Night Live” to his explosive stand-up specials to his decades-long movie run, the comedian invites the public into his home as he revisits every era of his legendary career.

Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Jamie Foxx, Jerry Seinfeld, Arsenio Hall, Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan, Tracee Ellis Ross and more stars are featured in the film.

Selena Quintanilla’s life and legacy are revisited once more in the definitive documentary “Selena y Los Dinos: A Family’s Legacy.” Directed by Isabel Castro, the film chronicles a side of the late singer that has never been seen before, featuring footage from the Quintanilla family’s private archives and home videos.

And for the first time ever, Quintanilla’s parents, Marcella and Abraham, siblings Suzette and A.B., and her husband, Chris Pérez, all sit down on-camera to share their story.

‘One Shot With Ed Sheeran’

“One Shot With Ed Sheeran” is precisely what the title suggests: a “music experience” led by the Grammy-winning musician, all captured in a single take by Emmy-winning “Adolescence” director Philip Barantini. The documentary features Sheeran performing his greatest hits as he spends an afternoon traveling the bustling streets of New York City.

“Train Dreams” adapts Denis Johnson’s novella of the same name into a tale about an ordinary man with an extraordinary life. Directed by Clint Bentley, the film follows Robert Grainier (Joel Edgerton) as he navigates love and loss during a time of unprecedented change in early 20th-century America.
