Following the recent addition of a variety of both Sports and Politics related event contracts, which allow its clients to essentially bet on the outcome of sports games and election races, FNG has learned that US neobroker Robinhood (NASDAQ:HOOD) is expanding its list of Entertainment event contracts within its Prediction Markets offering.
The new Entertainment contracts allow eligible Robinhood clients to bet on things such as who will be nominated for a Grammy, Golden Globe or Oscar; who will be TIME’s Person of the Year; which TV shows will be cancelled, among a variety of other choices.
The event contracts are all offered through Robinhood partner Kalshi, a CFTC regulated exchange. Both Kalshi and Robinhood have been actively engaged in legal battles with various US state regulators and other licensed gambling institutions, defending their rights to offer their products nationwide without requiring state licensing.
The initial success of Kalshi and Robinhood (and other “non gambling” online companies that offer Kalshi products) has hit hard the shares of gaming company shares, such as DraftKings (NASDAQ:DKNG), which has seen its shares decline by 18% over the past month. We understand that Kalshi and Robinhood have seen good growth in both their Sports and Politics offerings, especially around the recent round of US regional elections, including the Mayor race in New York City.
Robinhood is slated to report its Q3 2025 results later today, at which time we might get more insight into the Event Contracts offering.
