Nov. 5—WILLMAR — The Willmar Senior High School music department’s production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s “School of Rock — The Musical” opens for its four-day run Thursday, Nov. 6.
The two-act production has 21 scenes, with a 39-member cast.
Performances are scheduled at 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Brau Performing Arts Center at the high school.
“It is a beautifully written show that gives a voice to so many of our talented students,” according to a joint statement from the show’s multiple directors.
The “School of Rock” musical tells the story of a wannabe rock star who poses as a substitute teacher at a school, transforming a class of bright students into a rock band and preparing them for a “Battle of the Bands” competition. The musical is based on a 2003 movie and features songs from the film, as well as some new numbers by Webber.
The 2025 musical will be the 32nd consecutive year of musical productions by the Willmar Senior High music department.
Senior students participating in the production include Mikayla Ornelas, Lindsey Winter, Rosemika Groen, Nevaeh Molash, Linda Waltz, Peyton Driscoll, Biruk Heglund and Hailey Jurgenson.

The production’s musical directors are Travis Michelson, Madison Anderson-Wilson and Kari Michelson, and Arianna Gilles as student director. Kari Michelson is also the choreographer, with Kristen Catiglione as pit director and Anna Zieske as costume director.
