MMI Preparatory School’s music program is hitting a new note, thanks to the addition of a professional-quality timpani drum set, made possible through the Barbara L. Sowers and Joseph A. Turri ’45 Music, Drama, and Fine Arts Fund of The Luzerne Foundation.
The new timpani drums provide expanded opportunities for MMI’s growing music program, enhancing student performances and allowing for more complex and professional-level repertoire. The instrument will be used in concerts, at events, and even in community performances, enriching both the School’s ensembles and the broader campus experience.
“Music education builds creativity, discipline, and collaboration. These are skills that prepare students for success in every aspect of life,” said Theresa Long, Head of School. “We are deeply grateful to The Luzerne Foundation and the Turri Fund for their continued support of the arts at MMI. Their generosity ensures our students have the tools to perform at their highest potential.”
Ms. Jennifer Gerhard, MMI’s music director, added, “The timpani drums bring a powerful depth and resonance to our ensemble. It’s exciting to see our students experiment with this new instrument and explore what it can bring to their performances.”
