Some famous faces took to the water with ‘unpredictable’ sharks during Monday’s (July 21) episode of Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters
Shark! Celebrity Infested Waters stars were left squealing after they were surrounded by “unpredictable” Caribbean Reef sharks during a nail-biting moment.
The new ITV reality series kicked off on Monday (14th July), with a group of seven celebrities, including Lenny Henry and Helen George.
As well as Dougie Poynter, Ross Noble, Lucy Punch, Rachel Riley and Ade Adepitan all jetting off to The Bahamas for a daring shark diving adventure.
Making a return to our TV screens tonight (July 21), the brave celebrities were informed they would be swimming with “intimidating” Caribbean Reef sharks that are not afraid to “come up to you”.
As expected, it immediately sparked fear among some participants. Keen to find out what they were getting themselves into, Lenny asked: “Are they a danger to us?”

The celebrities were then warned by an expert: “To me they’re the most unpredictable species that I work with. It is an intimidating species to be in the water with because they are big, fast and bold so they will come up to you.”
He continued: “When I first came to Bimini, the first encounter I ever had was with a reef shark and it was kind of a right of passage for any scientist that came to the research station here in Bimini, we’re going to test you guys and put you exactly through the same experience.”
It was clear that the group were not quite prepared for the dangerous dip as Lucy said: “We really are right in the middle of nowhere in the scene on our own with a load of sharks but I’m hoping when Tristin comes he’s going to reassure us about what we are doing and that it’s safer than it looks.”
Trying to make light of the situation, another joked: “You can just get eaten by a shark, that’ll be a hell of a story at the funeral.”
Later, as the celebrities made their way on the boat, the Caribbean Reef sharks surrounded them in the water, leaving some of the stars squealing.
It comes as the debut episode of SHARK! Celebrity Infested Waters sparked mixed reactions, with some critics describing it as “unwatchable” and others hailing it as “amazing”.
The programme, released during the 50th anniversary year of Jaws, intends to shift celebrities’ perspectives on sharks and promote conservation by observing them in the wild.
SHARK! Celebrity Infested Waters airs tonight at 9pm on ITV1, with the series available on ITVX.
