The Rock has revealed how being a pro wrestler prepared him to entertain people as an actor.
During a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, The Rock shared that pro wrestling taught him how to engage with fans and helped him become one of the most entertaining stars both inside the ring and on the big screen.
“That taught me that idea of always taking care of the audience, doing your best to send them home happy, and believing in what the performance is. My ring was my stage and the character was who I thought was interesting and intriguing.
The Rock further stated that he was never interested in being a wrestler who performs crazy moves and that he concentrated on being the most entertaining performer.
“I never was interested in being the biggest guy or the loudest guy or the craziest guy or the guy that did all these crazy moves off the top rope, because that just wasn’t me. But I thought, ‘Maybe I could be the most entertaining.’”
The Rock also addressed The Smashing Machine‘s underwhelming box office performance in the same interview.
Former WWE Superstar Claims The Rock Handpicked Him For A Segment
Speaking on the Click and Tell podcast, former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal claimed The Rock handpicked him for a promo segment on the January 1, 2024, episode of Raw.
“He left me a voice note, and I met with him at his hotel room because he was going to arrive right before and surprise everyone,” Mahal said. “When people come early, people see them, and then it goes all over the internet and the surprise is ruined. So he wasn’t going to be at the arena all day. They secretly took me to his hotel room.
“When I went to his hotel room, he told me they gave him a list of eight or nine people, and he picked me. He said, ‘I knew I could do a good promo with you.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, awesome.’
Jinder Mahal also claimed The Rock thanked him after the segment.
