Prince George Joins Kate Middleton for His 1st Festival of Remembrance

Prince George made his first appearance at the Royal British Legion’s Festival of Remembrance service.

George, 12, joined his mother, Princess Kate Middleton, at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Saturday, November 8. The mother and son sat in a royal box with King Charles III, Queen Camilla, Prince Edward, Duchess Sophie and other members of the royal family.

For the occasion, George dressed smartly in a black suit with a striped tie and a poppy pin affixed on his lapel. Kate, 43, also donned a poppy pin, which adorned her black long-sleeved dress with a white Peter Pan collar.

Remembrance is celebrated each November in the U.K. to remember military veterans who served the Commonwealth. To show their support, many residents often sport poppies pinned on their lapels.

Kate and her husband, Prince William, usually attend the Royal Albert Hall service together. William, 43, however, was absent on Saturday as the memorial overlapped with his ongoing visit in Brazil for the Earthshot Prize Awards.

William and Kate have been married since 2011, going on to welcome George, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7.

The family recently dealt with a trying time after the Princess of Wales was diagnosed with an undisclosed form of cancer in early 2024. After undergoing chemotherapy last year, Kate announced in January 2025 that she was in remission.

“I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year,” she wrote in an Instagram statement. “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”

She continued, “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support.”

Kate has since steadily returned to her public-facing duties while navigating her new normal.

“You put on a sort of brave face, stoicism through treatment. Treatment’s done, then it’s like, ‘I can crack on, get back to normal,’ but actually, the phase afterwards is really, really difficult,” the duchess said during an appearance at Essex’s Colchester Hospital in July. “You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer, but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to.”

She added, “Someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think is really valuable. It’s a roller-coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be, but the reality is you go through hard times.”

Kate’s cancer battle also affected George and his younger siblings.

“Everyone has their own coping mechanisms for these sorts of things, and children are constantly learning and adapting,” William revealed during a recent episode of Eugene Levy’s Apple TV+ series. “We try to make sure we give them the security and the safety that they need. We’re a very open family, so we talk about things that bother us, and things that trouble us, but you never quite know the knock-on effects that it can have. It’s just important to be there for each other and to kind of reassure the children that everything is OK.”
