Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z are reportedly preparing to purchase a stunning rural estate in the Cotswolds, adding their names to an expanding roster of American A-listers acquiring properties in the British countryside.
The power couple is allegedly in the final stages of acquiring 58 acres of land near Wigginton, where blueprints have already received approval for constructing a “spectacular rural estate.”
Should the transaction be completed, the duo would be mere minutes away from Great Tew, the Oxfordshire hamlet that has long attracted celebrities, including David and Victoria Beckham.
However, not all residents in the vicinity are extending a warm welcome. Gerry Barrago, 77, who resides near the now-shuttered White Swan Inn, dismissed the news, “I don’t give a flying toss.”
He mentioned that his wife frequently observes the pair in their vintage Range Rovers at Burford Garden Centre.
“When someone points them out to my wife, her first reaction is to ask who they are. Some of these so-called celebrities I’ve never actually heard of.”, reports the Express.
Residents at Wigginton’s drinking establishments remain similarly wary. With the White Swan’s closure, Beyoncé and Jay-Z might find themselves patronizing The Falkland Arms in neighboring Great Tew.
However, one employee expressed hesitation about embracing the American duo,”We love our local clientele and we don’t want the couple’s arrival to bring in a different sort.”
Other residents expressed worries about property values and community character. Thomas Winter, 30, said, “The ethos of the area has changed due to the influx of Londoners and big names buying property.
“It could make it even harder for people like me to get on the housing ladder.”
However, not every response was negative. One local branded the purchase “madness,” while another declared they “couldn’t wait to see Beyonce at the village fete”.
Real estate expert Owain Jones verified the property was listed at $10 million, but emphasized that upon completion, the estate could command “north of $24 million”.
He characterized the Cotswolds as the “Hamptons of the UK,” citing exclusive venues like Soho Farmhouse and upscale accommodations such as Estelle Manor.
Sources indicate Beyonce and Jay-Z’s prospective residence may boast seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms and a lake. This past summer, the duo was photographed arriving via helicopter to tour a neighboring estate.
An insider revealed to Daily Mail’s Eden Confidential that the stars are determined to establish British roots, “They will always be based in LA but the UK is on the agenda. Beyonce loves the UK because they support everything she does.”
This wouldn’t mark the first lavish acquisition for the entertainment moguls. Back in 2017, they relocated to a Malibu estate costing $400k per month, before investing $197 million in an eight-bedroom Bel Air mansion.
