Vanessa Marcil is proud of herself — and that pride extends to her son, Kassius Lijah Marcil-Green.
“I was raised in a very bad neighborhood. Chicano family members older & younger than me were in gangs, sold drugs, and some are sex workers. (Respect) Coming from where I came from it is unheard of what I’ve gone on to achieve & what my son has achieved,” the actress wrote via Instagram on Saturday, November 8, alongside a throwback photo from her pregnancy with Kassius, now 23, whom she shares with ex Brian Austin Green.
Marcil, 57, continued: “The risks Kass & I are both willing to take in life as artists choosing the path less traveled IS the outcome. The journey, the struggle IS the outcome. Do what you love. Don’t have a safety net. Don’t settle for a back up plan. You will never look back and regret having your freedom. Take the risk. Art is meant to disturb, to disrupt, to make you feel something. If you aren’t willing to feel the bad you will also miss out on the joy. If you do the same thing that a man would do? You will be called a bitch. Go be a bitch….”
Marcil began her career in 1992 as Brenda Barrett on General Hospital, where she appeared on and off until 2013. She is also known for her roles as Gina Kincaid on Beverly Hills, 90210 and Sam Marquez on Las Vegas. Currently, Marcil spends her days advocating for single mothers and animal rescues. She works closely with the SoCal French Bulldog Rescue and the California Cleft Pup Rescue, in addition to her work helping dogs in need of a forever home.
Kassius also has hopes of being an actor, following in his parents’ footsteps. (Brian, 52, is best known for playing David Silver on Beverly Hills, 90210.)
Marcil has fully supported Kassius, who is openly gay, and recently came to his defense after homophobic remarks were thrown his way.
“First of all I’m so sorry that you are so lonely & unhappy that you have to involve children in your self hatred, projection spirals but I promise you that my kid just feels sorry for you. He’s happy,” she wrote to a commenter via Instagram in June, saying she’d “feel bad for you but I’m not that mature.”
“My kid however is the most decent, forgiving, kind, educated, talented, FREE, committed (with the same boyfriend for 8 years), self reflective, non judgmental, philanthropic (look it up [commenter]), Intellect…who has actually studied the Bible and Judaism along with other religions, languages, cultures and he would fight for your freedoms and your rights just like my man did in the Iraq war,” she continued, mentioning her fiancé, deputy sheriff MC Martin.
Brian has also stood by his son, telling Lance Bass on his “Frosted Tips” podcast in 2023 that although it was “challenging” at first, he fully supports Kassius.
“I would get into these conservations with Kash where it was like I really wanted to understand the things that seemed so different to me at first,” Green said at the time. “And then you realize, ‘Oh, this isn’t different at all.’ It’s just your choice of partner. It doesn’t affect me at all.”

He continued, “And that’s the thing I’m always trying to beat into people now — it does not affect you. Why do you care so much? And why are you trying to somehow bully your feelings and your opinion into something that literally does not affect you at all?”
Brian also shares children Noah, 13, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 9, with ex-wife Megan Fox and son Zane, 3, with fiancée Sharna Burgess.

“The No. 1 is always make sure that everything is centered around the experience of the kids,” he explained of coparenting to E! News in 2024. “People make a mistake of thinking that they’re gonna do things so the separation doesn’t affect the kids. Of course, it’s gonna affect the kids.”
He added, “The only choice you have is how it affects the kids.”
