BuzzFeed Community members and Redditors alike have A LOT of opinions — some, quite polarizing — when it comes to TV and film. The hot topic today? Movie couples with zero romantic chemistry. Here’s what they had to say:
1. “Dune. It just didn’t work for me. I even watched the most recent one in theaters because I really want to like it, and everyone else seems to. But I dunno. It’s just…not my thing.”

“I swear Paul had more chemistry with Jessica than with Chani.”
2. “Laura Dern and Sam Neill in Jurassic Park. They’re supposed to be in a relationship and in love, talking about having kids, but at no point do you ever buy that they love each other; they come across as coworkers the whole movie. Laura Dern has more chemistry with Jeff Goldblum, but can you blame her? He’s hot as hell.”

3. “Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley in the films. Those two had all the fire and passion of a tax audit.”

“Not only Ginny and Harry, but Ron and Hermione. It felt rushed and forced, and I think that J.K. Rowling could have done better.”
“Ginny and Harry had almost no time on screen together. Their dating made no sense.”
“Harry and Luna made a better pair than Harry and Ginny.”
4. “My wife had me watch Twilight recently. Every bit of romance was incredibly uncomfortable.”
5. “Honestly? Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney in Anyone But You. I watched it, expecting to see this crackling spark, the modern rom-com being saved, and all the other things people claimed about this film, and I just got nothing. I don’t get it.”

6. “I recently went on a date with my fiancé to see The Materialists. Pedro Pascal and Chris Evans had more chemistry with each other than Dakota Johnson had with either of them. To be fair, she doesn’t have any chemistry with anyone in any movie she is in.”
“The people in The Materialists. Like all of them.”
“Both of Dakota Johnson’s relationships in The Materialists, though I think that’s more a fault of the script than the actors.”
7. “Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling in La La Land.”

“But they were so cute in Crazy, Stupid, Love!”
8. “This is my view and not a statement of objectivity. Still, this is going to upset a lot of people. Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in The Bodyguard. It just didn’t click with me. My girlfriend at the time was crying, and I was a little shocked at how much I didn’t buy it.”

“They seemed bored with each other.”
9. “Robert Pattinson and Zoey Kravitz in The Batman. Worst part of an otherwise great movie by far.”

“Tbh, I thought they were brother and sister for a lot of that movie.”
11. “I really didn’t like the Bruce Banner and Natasha romance in Avengers: Age of Ultron.”

“The Hulk/Black Widow thing in the MCU was so cringe.”
12. “Ben Stiller and Greta Gerwig in Greenberg was bizarre. They had zero chemistry, and the sex scenes were so awkward.”

13. “Christian Bale and Katie Holmes in Batman Begins. If you could somehow excise the entire sub-plot of Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne being in love with Katie Holmes’ character, Batman Begins is a damned near perfect movie. Even with their wooden romance, it’s still my favourite Batman film of all time. Sadly, the two leads have about as much chemistry as two dry bricks in a sandstorm. If these two had any less feeling for each other, they’d never have met.”

14. “Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson in Babygirl. It was just so not sexy. The scenes where they were kissing looked so unnatural, it made me cringe.”

15. “Julia Roberts and Richard Gere have NO chemistry in Pretty Woman. I feel like this is probably a controversial take, but whatever.”

16. “Amber Heard and Jason Momoa in Aquaman. The movie came out before the Johnny Depp vs. Amber Heard trial, so it had nothing to do with any opinions on her as a person or actress, but she and Jason Momoa just had zero chemistry. I think they both looked great for their parts, but their screen time together felt reallllly forced.”

17. “Fifty Shades of Grey, Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson. Not only was the movie adaptation horrible, but they also lacked serious chemistry, which made it all worse. We were so excited, and it was blah.”

18. “James Bond and Madeleine. They tried so hard, but it wasn’t the same as with Vesper.”

19. Emma Watson and Dan Stevens in the live-action Beauty and the Beast. I don’t really like the live-action remakes, and this one had bad acting and no chemistry whatsoever.”

20. “Thor and Jane. It was all fast and forced. They were only together for like two days in the first movie.”
Jasin Boland / Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures / Marvel Studios / Courtesy Everett Collection
21. “I’ll add Ben Stiller and Jennifer Aniston from Along Came Polly to the list. As much as I like the actors, they have no romantic chemistry at all. At best, they seem like friends. I think Ben had more chemistry with the ex-wife character in the one minute they were on screen together than the whole movie with Jennifer.”

23. “Jonah Hill and Lauren London in You People had literally no chemistry.”
Parrish Lewis / Netflix /Courtesy Everett Collection
24. “The Ugly Truth starring Katherine Heigl and Gerard Butler. Ugh! First of all, Gerry has no business doing rom-coms, and second, Heigl had more chemistry with the sex toy than either man! Bonus, when I got dragged to this garbage movie, there was a lady at the theater doused in perfume that triggered a migraine and ruined the rest of my day.”

25. “Renée Zellweger and Tom Cruise in Jerry Maguire. Of course, in my opinion…Tom Cruise with anyone (poor women).”

“Tom Cruise with anyone after his divorce from Katie Holmes. He no longer has real sexual chemistry with anyone but a mirror.”
26. And: “Ben Affleck and Sandra Bullock in Forces of Nature! Love them individually. Together, they were like nails on a chalkboard!”
