This week’s Boston Blue recap comes to you a little late, but with good reason. I was catching the New Kids on the Block Las Vegas residency while the Friday, Nov. 7, episode was airing. Shout out to all my fellow Blockheads, but let’s get to Donnie Wahlberg’sother gig as Danny Reagan on the Blue Bloods spin-off.

Last week saw the series give us a little more insight into the love lives of the Silver family. Plus, we got another glimpse of Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) who popped in to visit Danny at the end of the episode (she’ll be back on Nov. 21 to help solve a case). But in Boston Blue’s fourth episode, everyone’s separate cases get tangled into one in the most surprising of ways.

In the opening scene, the Silver family, joined by Danny and Sean are honoring their late patriarch Benjamin Silver, marking a a year since his death. It’s here we learn that Lena (Sonequa Martin-Green) didn’t fully convert to Judaism like her mother. She was torn between converting to Judaism and staying with her grandfather’s faith since he’s a reverend. But the fact that she ultimately didn’t finish what she started has always nagged at her.

There are three cases this week, and they’re all connected.

Lena and Danny are trying to solve the murder of a man whose body was found left in an alley. They discover the victim is Henry Chen, the owner of an antique shop.

Meanwhile Sarah (Maggie Lawson) is dealing with a bank robbery resulting in what her team believes is an armed suspect and hostage on the run.

Then we have Jonah (Marcus Scribner) and Sean (Mika Amonsen) arriving at the scene of a hit-and-run which injured a cyclist and ultimately destroyed his bike.

So how do these three seemingly separate crimes all come together? Well, Sarah and her team search the tunnels below the bank that was robbed, which leads them to a hole in the very antique shop that Danny and Lena are searching at the same time.

The getaway car used in the bank heist is the same one that hit the cyclist Jonah and Sean interviewed. So the Silvers and Reagans all play a part in cracking each other’s cases.

We’re learning more about the Silvers.

Part of what made Blue Bloods such a hit series were the family connections and personal moments woven into the police drama. Between the last two episodes, we’re starting to make more progress on that in Boston Blue.

Now that the main players have been established, and we’re learning a bit more about what life was like before Ben was murdered, there’s a more natural pathway to get into what makes each character tick.

At the end of episode four, Lena makes the decision to complete converting to Judaism. As for Danny and Sean, they’re working on their father-son relationship, as well as their working one. But for those of us still shipping Danny and Baez, we’ll have to wait until that Nov. 21 episode to see how the romantic relationship affects an opportunity to work together once again.
