The Celebrity Traitors, the VIP edition of the hit BBC reality series, is in full swing, launching the likes of Jonathan Ross, Sir Stephen Fry and Cat Burns onto our screens – and there have already been a myriad of iconic moments.
From Tom Daley’s side-eye to Kate Garraway after she exclaimed she was “flabbergasted” by a murder, and Celia Imrie’s flatulent moment, to Alan Carr being, well, Alan Carr, it’s been an epic season so far.
But it’s not only the famous faces and the action in the show that has fans hooked, but also the series’ stunning location, which sees the celebrity contestants call a grand castle home for a few weeks.
From the grand dining room where the contestants find out who’s been banished and the dark room where round-table debates lead to hotly-contested banishments, to the beautiful surrounding forests, glens and peaks, the setting is certainly impressive. But where is it located?

Where was The Celebrity Traitors filmed?

The Celebrity Traitors was filmed in the Scottish Highlands, with the contestants living in Ardross Castle – a 19th century venue, located 25 miles north of Inverness.
Filming took place predominantly within the castle and on its grounds, with challenges taking place in the nearby area.
The Scottish Baronial-style location has over 100 acres of parkland on the bank of the River Alness, and was previously a hunting lodge for the 1st Duke of Sutherland.
It is now owned by the McTaggart family, who bought the property in 1983 and restored the gardens and estate.

On filming in Scotland, host Claudia Winkleman said that she has “never been anywhere more beautiful” than the Highlands.
“It felt sometimes like we were in a painting, if that’s not too cheesy,” she said. “On day two, we saw a double rainbow, and everyone was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’ and the crew were crying, there were baby deer, there was beautiful heather, there were ancient trees and an ancient loch. We were all taking pictures.
“I FaceTimed my kids to say, ‘You’ve never seen anything like it, it’s magical.’ And then, by day four, there had been another three double rainbows. I mean, by the end of the three weeks, where we had seen 50, it was like, ‘I don’t care.’ But it’s just the most beautiful landscape.”

Unfortunately, Ardross Castle is not open to the general public.
However, it is possible to hire the venue, which boasts more than 30 rooms, for a wedding or corporate event.
Activities including fly fishing on the River Alness, mountain bike hire and guided walks on the grounds of the estate.
Not even the cast stay in the castle, with contestants instead retreating to a hotel by the airport, the Courtyard by Marriott, to sleep.
Celebrity Traitors begins on Wednesday 8th October at 9pm on BBC One and iPlayer. The Traitors seasons 1-3 are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
