IFC has shared the official trailer for The Plague, a psychological thriller drama from filmmaker Charlie Polinger in his feature-length directorial debut. The movie will arrive in NY and LA theaters on December 24, followed by its wide release on January 2.
“At an all-boys water polo camp, a socially anxious twelve-year-old is pulled into a cruel tradition targeting an outcast with an illness they call ‘The Plague.’ But as the lines between game and reality blur, he fears the joke might be hiding something real,” reads the official synopsis.

What happens in The Plague trailer?
The video introduces Ben, an adolescent boy who is forced to participate in a cruel tradition at an all-boys water polo camp to fit in with the rest of the boys. Despite initially befriending Eli, he finds himself treating Eli like an outcast who has a contagious disease, as the lines between teasing and real harm begin to blur. The movie is described as a coming-of-age story about masculinity and peer pressure.
The Plague is written and directed by Charlie Polinger. The movie is led by Joel Edgerton, Everett Blunck as Ben, Kayo Martin as Jake, and Kenny Rasmussen as Eli. Executive producers are Gabi Antal, Cullen Conly, Gus Deardoff, Cory Finley, James Presson, Ben Ross, Lexi Tannenholtz, and Rami Yasin, with Derek Dauchy, Roy Lee, Lucy McKendrick, Steven Schneider, and Lizzie Shapiro serving as producers.
The movie had its world premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Since then, it has received a perfect Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 18 reviews.
