Discussion around Pete Davidson emerged again after his surprise Weekend Update cameo on “SNL.” The “Saturday Night Live” alum riffed with Colin Jost about their ferry buy, then exited into fresh backstage noise. Consequently, the comedian’s “SNL” appearance is now a two-track story: on-air laughs and off-air friction. Moreover, insiders described an icy hallway reunion with parts of the “SNL” cast. Therefore, the post-show mood has become its own sketch.

Pete Davidson is ‘still the same loud, cocky guy,’ per ‘SNL’ insider

As per Rob Shuter’s #ShuterScoop report, one “SNL” insider accused him of big-timing colleagues: “He acted like he was doing everyone a favor.” The same source added, “He’s still the same loud, cocky guy — but now he’s bitter.” Another production source was blunter about the greenroom vibe: “He ignored old friends, bragged nonstop, and made people uncomfortable.”

On camera, Davidson kept the Staten Island ferry routine rolling. As he told Colin Jost, “We even gave the boat a new name,… so now it’s called the ‘Titanic 2.’” He later shot a familiar producer line back into the bit: “If Lorne Michaels has taught us anything, it’s that you never, ever give up.” He closed by downplaying the project’s headlines: “The ferry, it’s fine.” And he added, “Sometimes the news just makes things seem worse than they are.”

However, the off-air read was more strategic than nostalgic. A veteran staffer framed the calculus around a return: “He needs SNL more than they need him,” before warning, “But no one’s rolling out a welcome mat.” Besides, a separate quip allegedly circulated widely among crew: “The Titanic II isn’t the only thing sinking — Pete’s ego might be next.”

Even so, the segment landed with viewers, and Davidson’s Update chemistry with Jost remained intact. Yet, insiders argued that the hallway politics mattered if he sought more Studio 8H time. As a result, any future Davidson appearance on “SNL” will likely hinge on whether bridges get rebuilt backstage. For now, the on-air punchlines are competing with off-air quotes, and both are getting shared like sketches on Monday morning.
