King Charles reportedly responded bluntly to Prince William’s plea after learning that his wife, Princess Kate, had been diagnosed with cancer.

In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III was battling cancer following treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King stepped back from public engagements while undergoing treatment, but continued to fulfill his constitutional duties privately.

Adding to the Royal Family’s distress, Catherine revealed in a video message in March that she was in the early stages of cancer treatment.

Describing the diagnosis as a “huge shock,” the princess delivered her statement with a calm determination that deeply moved the nation, reports The Mirror.

“At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer,” she said.

“For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.” Behind the scenes, Prince William was reportedly “totally crestfallen,” says Royal author Robert Jobson.

Balancing his official duties with supporting his wife and their three young children at Adelaide Cottage, the future king later described the ordeal as “brutal… the hardest year of my life” in an interview with The Times journalist Kate Mansey.

In his latest book The Windsor Legacy: A Royal Dynasty, Mr Jobson discloses that Prince William urged King Charles to take things easier and listen to his doctors’ recommendations.

He even proposed scaling back his own Royal engagements to just ten for the year, wanting to prioritize family time and recovery.

However, King Charles was not open to this suggestion. According to the author, the monarch fired back with a brief, two-word response: “Think again.”

Despite their conflicting views on handling the circumstances, the shared ordeal has strengthened the bond between Prince William and his father.

Charles demonstrated unwavering support for his “beloved” daughter-in-law, commending her “courage and resilience” – words that carried special weight given his own medical challenges.

Mr Jobson wrote: “Like William, he became a ‘beacon of strength’ to the princess. The two had a private one-to-one lunch at Windsor Castle the day before Catherine’s pre-recorded video was aired.

“At this meeting, they were able to provide mutual support. After the video was broadcast, Charles released a palace statement expressing his pride in Catherine for her bravery in speaking out as she did.”

In January, the Princess of Wales revealed that she is in remission from cancer, signaling an emotional return to the hospital where she received treatment.

In a post shared on social media, Catherine conveyed her “relief” and said that she remained “focused on recovery.

“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am, however, looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead,” the princess penned in her heartfelt post, signing off simply as “C.”
