Every week, 88Nine music director Erin Wolf shares a sonic gem she found using her nearly 20 years of new-music exploration experience. You can hear all her discoveries live on 88Nine at 10 p.m. every Monday on What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.

Katie and Allison Crutchfield — the musical twins who’ve made names for themselves as Waxahatchee and Swearin’, respectively — gave everyone a big treat on Halloween when they surprise-dropped a full-length, self-titled album from their new collaborative project called Snocaps.

This isn’t the first time they’ve made music together. Back when they were teens in their hometown of Birmingham, Alabama, they formed a band called The Ackleys and then another called P.S. Eliot. As Snocaps, they bring Southern-countrified rock ‘n’ roll to the masses, with a healthy dose of power-pop oomph balancing each sister’s personal tastes.

On tracks like “Avalanche,” you can hear how they blend magically, right down to their harmonizing voices. And with MJ Lenderman and Brad Cook in tow, it all sounds fully realized in a way that’s just super satisfying.

Get that satisfaction by catching “Avalance” from Snocaps in the playlist of this episode, which is available for your listening enjoyment via the player at the top of the page. Then make a note to come back to 88Nine every Monday at 10 p.m. for more What’s All This: Adventures in New Music.
