David Harbour is now filming Evil Genius, directed by Courteney Cox
In photos captured from the movie’s New Jersey set, the actor showed off a dramatic transformation in overalls and white hair

David Harbour has undergone quite the transformation for his newest screen role.
Not long after the Nov. 6 Stranger Things season 5 premiere in Los Angeles, the 50-year-old actor was spotted on the set of true-crime thriller Evil Genius, now filming with Courteney Cox at the helm as director.
In photos captured on Monday, Nov. 10, Harbour looked practically unrecognizable amid the New Jersey shoot. With graying hair and a fluffy gray beard, he wore a blue short-sleeved button-down and jeans overalls over what appears to be a padded suit.

The Thunderbolts star is evidently playing Brian Douglas Wells, a real-life pizza deliveryman who died in 2003 amid his robbery of a bank near his Erie, Penn. hometown. Evil Genius follows Wells’ infamous “pizza bomber” case, which involved an FBI investigation that uncovered a complex robbery and murder scheme.
Before his death, Wells famously maintained his innocence, alleging that he was forced to walk into the bank and demand $250,000 in cash.

A four-part documentary called Evil Genius: The True Story of America’s Most Diabolical Bank Heist was released on Netflix in 2018. The new narrative film directed and produced by Cox, 61, and written by Courtenay Miles is inspired by that series, per Deadline. It costars Patricia Arquette, Michael Chernus, Garret Dillahunt, Danielle Macdonald, Tom McCarthy, Gregory Alan Williams, Ryan Eggold, Owen Teague and Harlow Jane.

In some of the shots from the upcoming movie’s set, Harbour can be seen in a brown jacket and glasses. In one shot, he is smiling for the cameras over what appears to be Cox’s head.
Harbour went straight from promo events for the latest and final season of Netflix sci-fi drama Stranger Things to the Evil Genius set. At the Nov. 6 premiere alongside fellow cast members Millie Bobby Brown, Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard and more, he sported a pinstriped suit and mustache.
“I’ve been fascinated by Evil Genius since I first saw the documentary,” said Cox in a statement shared with Deadline about her new movie.
“It’s stranger than fiction,” she added, “at moments darkly funny and yet deeply emotional. A story about love, loneliness, manipulation, and the people on the fringes who get pulled into something much bigger than themselves.”

Evil Genius does not yet have a release date. Among Harbour’s other upcoming projects are the animated movie GOAT (in theaters Feb. 13, 2026); Violent Night 2 (in theaters Dec. 4, 2026); and Avengers: Doomsday (in theaters Dec. 18, 2026).
