It always feels great when Hollywood A-listers decide to join a horror film. For many years, renowned actors stayed away from the aforementioned genre because they didn’t get the script they wanted. However, in recent years, we have seen prominent actors making an appearance in films that elevate the genre with compelling narratives. Now, Nicole Kidman is the latest star to join that growing list, making a much-anticipated return to the horror genre with a project that promises to be one of a kind.
The official X (formerly known as Twitter) account of Neon announced that Kidman will be joining the cast of Osgood Perkins’ upcoming movie, The Young People. The film is already stacked with an amazing cast, which includes the likes of Lola Tung, Nico Parker, Brendan Hines, Cush Jumbo, Heather Graham, Jonny Knoxville, Tatiana Maslany, Lexi Minetree, and Lily Collias.
As of now, the plot details have been kept under wraps, but as per reports, the narrative chronicles the journey of a couple of school friends, one of whom starts showcasing shocking red flag behaviors. The filming is currently taking place in Vancouver.
The Young People will see Kidman returning to the genre after 2017’s The Killing of a Sacred Deer. Meanwhile, for Perkins, this is his fourth title with Neon after Longlegs, The Monkey, and the upcoming horror flick, Keeper, which is scheduled to hit theaters on November 14.
Kidman is no stranger to this genre and has already delivered two smashing hits within the genre. Apart from The Killing of Sacred Deer, the Oscar-winning actor is known for her impeccable performance in the 2001 hit The Others. In the movie, she played the role of a mother battling supernatural forces in an old English mansion along with her two children. The film went on to gross over $210 million globally and is considered to be one of the best horror flicks of all time.
It would be interesting to see what kind of role Perkins has offered Kidman and if it continues her streak of memorable horror films.
