Women in Hollywood honoree Chase Infiniti got her flowers—literally—from Zendaya and received life lessons from Leonardo DiCaprio. The 25-year-old One Battle After Another breakout star spoke to ELLE about how DiCaprio, who co-starred with her in the project, gave her far more than just acting tips.
“He has taught me a lot about being a leader on set, and being a beacon of kindness,” she said. “Because he’s so incredibly kind, and such a wonderful person to work with. A gentle leader, and somebody whom you can easily look up to and reach out to if you ever need help. So I’ve gotten advice from him about the industry, but I’ve also learned so much about being on set from him.”
Infiniti also reflected on receiving flowers from Zendaya for her performance, saying she wasn’t exaggerating when she wrote on Instagram that she literally cried. “I was trying not to cry, and my friends thought I was joking until I FaceTimed them after getting the flowers, and I was honestly, actually crying,” she said.
Infiniti has been adjusting to fame, noting that her work on One Battle led her to miss out on some K-pop shows. She is a passionate fan, having been to nearly every Ateez tour. Her other favorite bands include NCT, Verivery, and Enhypen. “I’ve never gone to less [concerts] in my life than I have in the past year, because I’ve been working so much,” she admitted.
Missed K-pop concerts aside, her day-to-day life is just starting to change with her newfound fame. “The biggest shift that I’ve had to adjust to is pretty much just online, social media-wise,” she said. “I don’t get recognized that often in public, normally the giveaway is my hair. Because the way that [my character] Willa wears her hair is a style that I wear my hair in very often, so normally I get recognized when my hair’s like that, and I can kind of be hidden with my hair braided or with my hair in twists.
“But throughout filming Presumed Innocent and Paul [Thomas Anderson, the One Battle After Another director]’s movie, I’ve been so fortunate that I’ve had wonderful guides and mentors in the industry. Whether it be Ruth Negga, Teyana Taylor, or Regina Hall. I’m so grateful to have three incredible mentors in my life, three incredible Black women in Hollywood, who are so incredibly successful in many ways—in career, in life, in love. I’ve gotten so much advice from them about working in the industry and being a Black woman in the industry. Also, I have a wonderful team that is so supportive, so they guide me a lot of the way through this. Because it is so new, and it’s crazy, especially at a scope like this, and truly being thrust into it.”
