The acquisition is among a round of first presales announced by Beta Cinema on Wednesday as it presents the project to buyers at the AFM.
The film has also pre-sold to UK & Ireland (Signature Entertainment), France (Mediawan), Spain (Twelve Oaks) and Poland (Hagi Film).
The movie is a sequel to the international hit Operation Napoleon which sold to more than 40 territories and was a box office hit in Germany in 2023.
Adapted from Arnaldur Indridason’s eponymous bestseller, it starred Vivian Ólafsdóttir as Kristin, a young lawyer who is inadvertently caught up in a plot to coverup a World War Two secret.
The new English-language adventure reunites Ólafsdóttir (It Hatched) with Jack Fox (Riviera), and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson, under the direction of Jyri Kähönen.
The intrigue follows Kristin and her team on a high-stakes hunt for the legendary “Tears of the Wolf”—a cache of Nazi diamonds hidden during WWII. After witnessing a murder, Kristin uncovers clues that lead to encrypted codes and lost musical notes, propelling the trio across Iceland, Finland, and Germany toward a dramatic showdown in Helsinki’s underground bunkers and the Finnish Archipelago.
Kähönen directs from a script written by Marteinn Thorisson (Operation Napoleon, Jack Taylor, Niko).
New cast members include Tom Weston-Jones (True Things, Warrior, Copper) and Laura Birn (Void, The Crow, A Walk Among the Tombstones, Foundation).
Operation Napoleon – Tears of the Wolf is produced by Anita Elsani and Alexander Klein for Splendid Entertainment, Germany, Kjartan Thor Thordarson of Stockholm and Reykjavík-based Sagafilm, and Eero Hietala and Sara Norberg for Take Two Studios, Finland, alongside co-producing partner Elsani Film.
The production is supported by Moin Film Fund Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein, Business Finland, West Finland Film Commission and the Icelandic Ministry of Industry and Innovation. Sam Film will release theatrically in Iceland, Splendid Film in Germany and Cinemanse in Finland.
