New scholarship at Palmyra High School available to music, agriculture, and vocational students

PALMYRA, Mo. (WGEM) – New financial support for Palmyra High School students will soon be available.

The Herbert, Guida, and Lucille Foster Opportunity Scholarship will provide assistance to Palmyra High School graduates pursuing postsecondary education or training in music, agriculture, or vocational trades.

The scholarship was made possible through a gift of over $680,000 from the estate of Lucille Foster, a Palmyra High School graduate who spent her life educating and supporting children.

The scholarship, named after Lucille and her parents, is designed to recognize students who demonstrate good citizenship, consistent attendance, and a clear interest in music, agriculture, or vocational training.

The awards will be renewable for students who maintain eligibility based on academic performance, attendance, and an annual review with the scholarship committee.

Palmyra School Foundation member David Lewis said the impact this scholarship can make would be far reaching.

“For students that may not have the opportunity to go to college or go to a vocational school, that this money will provide an opportunity that will change not only that student, but probably their kids down the road. So, it will be a generational impact for the students of Palmyra-R1,” Lewis said.

“Any vocational training that a student would want to use the money for, why we would hope they would apply for a scholarship because we want to use this money to benefit the students, because it’ll have a long lasting impact on students lifelong, so we’re very excited about it,” Lewis said.

The Herbert, Guida, and Lucille Foster Opportunity Scholarship will begin awarding funds in the upcoming academic year.
