The 48-year-old actor and father of six shared last November that he was diagnosed with stage 3 colorectal cancer. On Wednesday, he announced that he will be selling some cherished items he’s saved over the years in order to pay for medical expenses.

One of the pieces Van Der Beek is selling in Propstore’s Winter Entertainment Memorabilia Live Auction running Dec. 5 to 7 is the necklace his character on “Dawson’s Creek” gave to Katie Holmes’ character, Joey, for prom.

That necklace is expected to sell for between $26,400 to $52,800, while the outfit Van Der Beek wore on the “Dawson’s Creek” pilot could bring in as much as $4,000.

Meanwhile, fans of Van Der Beek’s 1999 film, “Varsity Blues,” could buy the cleats he wore for as much as $2,600.

“I’ve been storing these treasures for years, waiting for the right time to do something with them, and with all of the recent unexpected twists and turns life has presented recently, it’s clear that the time is now,” Van Der Beek told People.

“While I have some nostalgia tugging at me as I part with these items, it feels good to be able to offer them through Propstore’s auction to share with those who have supported my work over the years.”

While Van Der Beek’s illness kept him from attending a “Dawson’s Creek” reunion in September, he did make a virtual appearance and thanked his co-stars, crew and fans for their support.

“I want to stand on that stage and thank every single person in the theater for being here tonight,” he said. “From the cast to the crew to everybody who’s doing anything and has been so generous, and especially every single last one of you — you are the best fans in the world.”
