Elizabeth Olsen wants to return as the Scarlet Witch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The 36-year-old actress portrayed Wanda Maximoff from 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron until the character’s supposed demise in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Olsen has insisted she would come back to the MCU “in a heartbeat”.
When The Playlist asked the Eternity star whether fans would see the Scarlet Witch again, she said: “I’ve been really proud of what we’ve been able to make. Really proud.
“But I don’t have an answer for that.”
Olsen added she had “no idea how or when” the Scarlet Witch might reappear, and stressed she was not in Avengers: Doomsday.
When the outlet told Olsen fans could imagine her featuring in the upcoming blockbuster, she said: “Well, I can’t. Honestly, I do wait.
“I want to see [her] return in this role because I think what they’ve done with her is really great, and I love the journey she’s taken. I think it’s always a fun one to get to go back into, and I just have no idea how or when, for sure.”
Olsen had previously said she would “always” want to come back to the MCU, and felt “very lucky and very scared” when she joined the superhero franchise more than a decade ago.
Speaking at the Hamptons International Film Festival’s A Conversation With … event, People magazine reported she said: “It is something that I love, and it’s something I always want to return to.
“I think the thing that’s been so special about the last five years is I’ve gotten to do so much with the character that I never thought I would. There are still character through lines that have happened in the comics that I’d love to do that I think fans also want to.
“I mean, these movies aren’t for critics, these movies are for fans.”
Olsen – who was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in 2021 Disney+ Marvel show WandaVision – noted that superhero-movie fatigue may have kicked in for some people, but she loves the familiarity of the genre.
She explained: “It’s really fruitful, and the stories have only gotten better for me, my character. I really enjoyed it.
“Some people have ongoing television series that they get to return to. Very few, I feel like, get to be a part of franchises that, I know we might culturally get a little bit exhausted by, but there is something about them that becomes very familial.
“There’s nothing else really like it, and I don’t know that I’ll have [that] again unless it’s for an ongoing show. I do like that kind of consistency. It feels good. I mean, job security feels nice — I think we can all agree on that.”
