Critical Role‘s The Mighty Nein campaign is heading to Prime Video in the form of a new animated TV series. This time around, long-time Critical Roll Game Master, Matt Mercer, will have a main character to embody. Everyone’s favorite NPC Essek will be a major part and main character of The Mighty Nein‘s TV series, and Matt Mercer will be bringing him to life. But does that mean we won’t get any more hidden Matt Mercers, a tradition begun by Prime Video’s first Critical Role animated series, The Legend of Vox Machina? NO! The Mighty Nein showrunner Tasha Huo confirms that the tradition of hidden Matt Mercers will remain alive and well, even as Mercer takes on Essek as a full-blown character.

Here’s what Tasha Huo had to say about how we’ll see Matt Mercer appear in The Mighty Nein TV show:
Yeah, it’s really nice to have Matthew as Essek because we can have him as a main character as is well-deserved. But of course, there are always hidden Matthews.
Well deserved, indeed. But we’re glad that fun of sussing out where Matt Mercer is popping up won’t come to an end on The Mighty Nein. In The Legend of Vox Machina, Matt Mercer appeared as a variety of characters from guards to zombies to doomed resistance members, alongside the larger characters he voiced, including the vampiric Sylas Briarwood. We don’t know exactly how Matt Mercer will manifest in The Mighty Nein TV series or which characters he’ll embody, but we bet it will be in even more fun ways.
