The late actor Chadwick Boseman will be posthumously honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next Thursday, five years after he died from colon cancer at age 43.
Boseman will receive the 2,828th star on the Walk of Fame, which covers around 20 blocks on and near Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced.
Billboard was the first to report the news, noting that director Ryan Coogler, who worked with Boseman on 2018′s “Black Panther,” and Viola Davis, who starred with Boseman in his final film, 2020′s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” will both speak at the ceremony.
Simone Ledward-Boseman, Boseman’s widow, will accept the award on his behalf, Billboard reported.

“The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce is deeply honored to celebrate Chadwick Boseman’s extraordinary legacy with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Ana Martinez, a producer with the Hollywood Walk of Fame, said in a statement. “His powerful performances and enduring impact both on and off screen continue to inspire generations around the world.”
Plans to honor Boseman on the Walk of Fame were first announced last year.
Boseman rose to fame playing real-life Black icons Jackie Robinson, James Brown and Thurgood Marshall on screen. But his career-defining role came when he played T’Challa in Coogler’s “Black Panther,” a film that redefined the superhero genre and went on to break numerous records, including becoming the first film by a Black director to surpass $1 billion at the box office.
His performance in “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” would earn him his first Academy Award nomination after his 2020 death.
Other recent Walk of Fame star recipients include Naomi Watts, Lauren Graham, Def Leppard, Fran Drescher, Bill Nye and Busta Rhymes.
