Nicolas Cage is an A-lister who has had the pleasure of working alongside Hollywood veterans like Angelina Jolie, Nicole Kidman, and even the likes of Meryl Streep.
So, you would think that, since the list is long and he already has a career spanning decades, he would have already crowned someone as his best co-star. But that’s not the case. The actor recently named his The Carpenter’s Son co-star as the best. Interestingly, she is just breaking into the industry but has been dubbed by Cage as “one of the most luminary stars in cinema.”

In conversation with Entertainment Weekly about the same, referring to Isla Johnston who played Satan in The Carpenter’s Son, Cage said, “Listen, I can’t think of a better actor that I’ve ever worked with, and I include Meryl Streep in that group. I think that she’s going to be one of the most luminary stars in cinema.”
He continued, “She has that thousand-yard stare in her eyes that looks like she’s looking right through you and into the epicenter of your creation and your DNA. I mean, it’s wild.”
The 18-year-old actress Isla Johnston is a rising British star who is just breaking into the industry. She previously appeared in Netflix’s The Queen’s Gambit, playing the younger version of Anya Taylor-Joy’s character. Later, she also starred in Apple TV’s sci-fi series Invasion.
The Carpenter’s Son is a 2025 psychological horror film about a family in hiding in Roman Egypt, led by Joseph (Nicolas Cage) and Mary (FKA twigs), and their teenage son, “the Boy” (Noah Jupe). It explores Jupe’s character’s struggle with his identity and powers, leading the story up to the theme of spiritual warfare. The film, with a limited theatrical release, will hit theaters on November 14.
