LA CROSSE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – No matter what artist you are seeing, the amount of work they have put in when no one was watching or noticed is immeasurable. Hours and hours of learning and trying and finding themselves with whatever medium they have found a home in. It’s plausible that by the time you have seen the artist, they are more comfortable in front of a crowd than they are anywhere else.
Then there is Allison Sky.
1 year. That is how long she has been performing for the public. Now, she has been writing songs for as long as she could recognize a melody… and I am in no way saying that she hasn’t done the work. What I am astounded by is that this woman looks like she was born behind a piano when she sits behind one. That the smooth, comforting tone that comes pouring out of her tiny frame is mirrored by the warm and steady presence she has while performing. And, even though I know… for certain… that what she is doing is anything but easy, she makes it look as though anyone could sit there, hammer those keys, and sound like a star.
Allison came in for my weekly show, Living Local. I told her I wasn’t sure if we would have time to include an interview, but I wanted to get one nonetheless. Boy, am I glad we did. Here is the song that WAS included in that episode of the show, “Behind This Smile,” as well as the short little talk we had.
If you are anywhere near where she is playing her songs, please go see for yourself. You won’t be disappointed, and you’ll wonder how long she has really been playing in public!
