Tom Cruise’s interaction with Sydney Sweeney at the weekend has gone viral on social media.
The Mission Impossible actor, 63, and the Euphoria star, 28, both attended the 16th Governors Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.
At the event, Tom received a prestigious Honorary Award, given for extraordinary lifetime achievement, exceptional contribution or outstanding service.
The award was presented by Alejandro G. Iñárritu, who is directing Tom in an upcoming film set to be released in October 2026.
While accepting the award, the actor gave an emotional speech paying tribute to all the people who make films possible and he reflected on his career throughout the years.
“The cinema, it takes me around the world,” the actor, looking elegant in a tuxedo, said. “It helps me to appreciate and respect differences.
“It shows me also our shared humanity, how alike we are in so, so many ways. And no matter where we come from, in that theater, we laugh together, we feel together, we hope together, and that is the power of this art form.
“And that is why it matters, that is why it matters to me. So making films is not what I do, it is who I am.”
He also said he always had a passion for cinema, since he was a child, which “sparked a hunger for adventure, a hunger for knowledge, a hunger to understand humanity, to create characters, to tell a story, to see the world.”
While fans loved Tom’s speech, many people on social media actually focused on his interaction with Sydney, after Variety shared a video of the superstars chatting during the event.
“#SydneySweeney meets #TomCruise at the 2025 Governors Awards,” the clip, shared on Instagram and X, was captioned.
The video shows both Tom and Sydney, who was wearing a sleeveless gown that accentuated her cleavage and featured a mermaid silhouette, smiling while talking during the awards ceremony at the Ray Dolby Ballroom at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.
“Game recognize Game,” a fan wrote on X, while another said, “I wonder what they talked about.”
“Tom Cruise and Sydney Sweeney movie collaboration when? I would love a movie between these two tbh,” a fan wrote on Instagram.

While attending the Governors Awards, Sydney opted for a more conservative look after facing backlash for wearing a revealing dress at an event last month.
The star made a dramatic change to her appearance while attending the 2025 Variety’s Power of Women event on October 29, wearing a sheer silver sparkling mesh-like gown that accentuated her slim waist and left little to the imagination, thanks to its transparent fabric.
While some fans loved the daring outfit choice and described Sydney as “a Goddess,” others said the dress was “tacky.”
The gown she wore last night was somehow reminiscent of the one behind the controversy as it was also sparkling and of the same color, silver.
However, the outfit was much more conservative as it wasn’t sheer and didn’t reveal the star’s famous curves, like the one she wore last month did.
