Apple TV+ has offered a major update on the future of Bad Monkey. After months of speculation, the streaming giant has confirmed that the series is officially moving ahead, with production plans now in motion. The announcement gives much-awaited clarity on Season 2, sparking excitement among fans.
Bad Monkey Season 2 begins filming
Bad Monkey has officially entered production on its second season, with Apple TV confirming the update on X (formerly Twitter).
The streamer posted, “The Keys are calling. Bad Monkey Season 2 is now in production.” Series creator and showrunner Bill Lawrence also posted a similar announcement on Instagram, noting that work on the new episodes is underway. He wrote, “Can’t wait. Let’ssssss Goooooo!!!”
Season 1 adapted Carl Hiaasen’s novel and follows Andrew Yancy, portrayed by Vince Vaughn, a former detective working as a health inspector. He attempts to win back his badge by investigating a severed arm linked to a larger case. The specifics about Season 2 storyline remain under wraps.
Several cast members from the first season are returning. Natalie Martinez is back as Rosa, now a series regular, while Charlotte Lawrence, who played Caitlin, has also been promoted to a regular role. Vaughn once again portrays Yancy and Ortiz is also back as Rogelio. The duo are expected to pick up from the Season 1 finale that hinted at their next assignment.
Season 2 is also expanding its ensemble. New additions include John Malkovich, Yvonne Strahovski, Zavior Phillips and Nate Jackson, joining the returning cast for the next chapter of the series. Production for the season has relocated from Florida to California, supported by a $20 million tax incentive (via Deadline).
Lawrence, who developed and executive produced Season 1, continues as showrunner for Season 2. As of now, Apple TV has yet to announce a release date.
