Dick Van Dyke isn’t letting age slow him down as he approaches 100 years old.
The actor has stayed entangled in the entertainment industry even in his senior years. The actor began his career in the late 1940s as a radio host and personality. Dick’s career later expanded into acting, becoming an A-list Hollywood icon. Now, he’s promoting his latest book, 100 Rules for Living to 100: An Optimist’s Guide to a Happy Life, which is available now for purchase.
However, despite his list of accomplishments, he’s not anywhere close to done. Dick told TODAY, “I’m looking for work right now.”
While he was partly joking, Dick did emphasize that he loves life and doesn’t have any intention to retire. This sort of optimism is a prevelant theme in his latest book.
“I’ve decided people are born with a certain personality and a certain outlook, a certain perspective,” he said. “I tend to look on the good side of things.”
Dick moved on from his radio career when he joined a touring comedy duo. This only led him on to TV screens, appearing on WDSU-TV New Orleans Channel 6 (NBC) as a comedian. He made a slow transition into acting gigs and appeared on Broadway, making his stage debut in 1959.
His role in Bye Bye Birdie gave his career swift momentum before he returned back to the screen in 1961 for The Dick Van Dyke Show. He starred in the show as comedy writer, Rick Petrie.
Notorious actors on the show included, Rose Marie, Morey Amsterdam, Jerry Paris, Ann Morgan Guilbert, Richard Deacon, and Carl Reiner, and Mary Tyler Moore.

As his show grew in popularity, more opportunities began to pour in for Dick. In fact, he had two roles in Walt Disney’s Mary Poppins — chimney sweep Bert and bank chairman Mr. Dawes Senior.
His career continued to grow even in to his senior years. He was recalled into the Disney world for Mary Poppins Returns in 2018.
Using his star power, he made an appearance on the Masked Singer, too. Most recently, he appeared in Coldplay’s music video for their song, All My Love.
