Disney’s streaming lineup is shifting again as a new project from one of Marvel’s most influential filmmakers gains momentum. After months of limited updates, Jon Favreau’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series has returned to the spotlight. A new report now indicates that the upcoming Disney+ title will not conclude with a single season.

Jon Favreau’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit series to have multiple seasons

Insider MyTimeToShineHello posted the scoop, writing, “Oswald is planned to have multiple seasons at Disney+.” The post circulated as new information about Favreau’s developing project surfaced online.

Deadline earlier learned that Favreau is writing and producing the animation/live-action hybrid for Walt Disney Studios and noted that Walt Disney created Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in 1927 and released 27 animated shorts.

The outlet stated that Universal gained control of the character in 1928, prompting Disney to introduce Mickey Mouse as a replacement. It added that under Disney CEO Bob Iger’s leadership, there was a focus on bringing the character back, and in 2006, The Walt Disney Co. successfully reacquired the trademark to Oswald.

Favreau created, wrote, and executive-produced The Mandalorian, which ran on Disney+ from 2019 to 2023. He also executive-produced The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. He will release his next feature, The Mandalorian and Grogu, in May 2026.

A separate update outlined new details about the series’ length. Daniel Richtman reported that the planned Oswald show will have only three episodes. His report indicated uncertainty about whether the project will appear as a three-part feature or as a miniseries. Production began earlier, and the cast features Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryder Allen, Mykal-Michelle Harris, Amy Sedaris, and Kathryn Hahn.
