As the Harry Potter reboot television series was in order at HBO, it was time for Daniel Radcliffe to pass the baton of the iconic Harry Potter that he held through the eight-film franchise from 2001 to 2011. And so he did – albeit sweetly and with all his blessings!
Radcliffe revealed on Good Morning America that when the casting for the reboot was announced, he wrote a heartfelt letter to Dominic McLaughlin. He recalled, “I wrote to Dominic and sent him a letter and he sent me a very sweet note back.”
“I don’t want to be a specter in the life of these children, but I just wanted to write to him to say, ‘I hope you have the best time, and an even better time than I did — I had a great time, but I hope you have an even better time.’ And I do, I just see these pictures of him and the other kids, and I just want to hug them.” Radcliffe continued.
He further added that he felt “crazy” seeing the young actor take on the role that he was doing at that age. “They just seem so young. I just look at them and say, ‘Oh, it’s crazy I was doing that at that age.’ But it’s also incredibly sweet, and I hope they’re having a great time.”
It’s so wonderful to see Radcliffe pass on his legacy with such tremendous enthusiasm to young Dominic, who has big shoes to fill. While the show inevitably faces the risks of constant comparison, we hope it meets all the expectations and becomes the behemoth the films were.
Dominic McLaughlin is taking a lead role alongside Arabella Stanton as Hermione and Alastair Stout as Ron. The series is slated to premiere sometime in 2027.
