William Mellon has rounded out the cast of his coming feature, “Discomfort, Texas, ” a film loosely inspired by the loss of his own twin sister.
The cast will feature Jack Shaw, Mallory Higgins, Maya Boyce and Claire Young, with special appearances by Carla Gallo (Apple TV’s “Platonic”) and Lauren Lane (“The Nanny”) as Nancy.
Shaw will play Frank Hines, “a sensitive, emotionally stunted young man” coping with the impending loss of his twin sister. Higgins will star as Jane Hines, Frank’s “sharp, rebellious and emotionally self-contained” twin sister.
Young will portray Suzanne, Frank’s recent ex and Jane’s former best friend while Boyce takes on the role of Ada, Jane’s closest confidant. Gallo and Lane will play Maggie and Nancy, Frank and Jane’s mothers.
“Discomfort, Texas” centers on the aftermath of a car accident that puts Frank’s twin sister Jane in a coma and causes Frank to spiral. According to the official logline, “Once defined by his intense connection with Jane, Frank must travel to the area of the crash to sift through the emotional wreckage.”
Set to a soundtrack by “Goodnight, Texas” and “Deloyd Elze,” the film is described as “a love-letter to the beauty found during loss as well as the cinematic landscape of the American Southwest.”
“When you’re born a twin, you grow up with an unspoken promise: you will never truly be alone,” Mellon said about the film. “I wrote ‘Discomfort, Texas’ for the same reason we once told each other those stories: to make sense of our pain, our questioning, our dark corners in an effort to find light within them.”
He continued, “But now I’m not just telling this story for Nora and me to help us fall asleep. ‘Discomfort, Texas’ is a reminder to anyone who has faced loss that when you truly love someone, they are never really gone.”
