Japanese Gothic is a gorgeously grotesque ghost story

Warren Zeiders had a few big reveals at his concert in Hershey. And one revolved around his Christian faith.

The country star’s show at the Giant Center on Nov. 22 brought him back to his hometown, and he had some good reason to ask the crowd to “give me everything you’ve got.”

“We’re recording a live album tonight, here in the 717,” he said, surprising the audience with the news. “So I need you to give me all the gas you have, because you guys are going to be on the live recording, y’all.”

The crowd was happy to oblige, singing along with plenty of excitement. And Zeiders’ performance certainly wasn’t shy.

In addition to more than a few suggestive and sultry songs, such as “Sin So Sweet” and “Pretty Little Poison,” there was also a pile of bras thrown on stage and, at the finale, Zeiders himself removing his own shirt.

But to balance things out, there were also moments of reflection and faith, and one more big surprise.

“I wanted to let you guys know: fun fact, I’m actually getting baptized tomorrow,” Zeiders said.

The news was the lead-in for Zeiders to introduce his rendition of the hymn “How Great Thou Art.”

“We’re going to play y’all my favorite hymnal of all time,” Zeiders said. “I just released this in time for Christmas. So if you know the words, please sing along with me. ”

In a post on his Instagram page, Zeiders shared in more detail what the hymn means to him.

“This hymnal that has been my favorite ever since I was a kid,” the post read. “I can’t tell you the amount of times this song has left me crying my eyes out, because of the connection I have to this song.”

Zeiders wrote that “I wanted to release my version of this song because I know y’all have asked for it for quite some time. So I figured this year I would release it as my Christmas song. It’s not traditionally a Christmas song, but I think we can make it one.”

The post concluded by saying that the holiday was a chance to gather with family, and “honor and glorify our Heavenly Father and celebrate the true meaning behind Christmas this year.”

And Zeiders concluded the performance of his hymn with another simple bit of praise, announcing “God is good!”
