There Are No Updates Concerning the Naruto-Live Action Film

According to IGN, there are no updates on the Naruto live-action film, which could mean a plethora of good and bad things. Obviously, the director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is busy with other projects like Shang-Chi and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. When it comes to movies, it appears that superhero films still take precedent, even though a creative live-action anime film could create a whole new popular genre for filmmakers to capitalize on.

So far, the only thing that has been revealed about the movie, aside from the director, is a fraction of the overall plot. The film is set to cover Naruto during his training to become the Hokage, and the script has already been completed. Cretton’s other projects clearly take creative priority, meaning it could be a while before the Naruto movie actually comes to fruition.

Only time will tell if Cretton continues as the director or if someone more available will be chosen. However, such an important project clearly needs to be done well. Such a popular anime has to be handled with the utmost care, or it could risk losing fans or running into another Dragon Ball situation.

Cretton was originally confirmed as the director in 2024. There have been absolutely no updates concerning the project since. It’s highly likely that he is waiting until he finishes his MCU tenure, but there’s always a chance he will get selected for more films. He seems to have a concrete vision for the films, but it might be time to go with someone more available.

Ultimately, the concept of making any live-action anime adaptation is incredibly risky. It is even riskier to make fans wait several years for this adaptation without saying anything. At this point, even a terrible movie would be better than no movie. Hopefully, fans don’t have to wait too much longer, knowing that the script has been completed and the director has been selected.
