4 fun-filled Thanksgiving movies to watch while you devour turkey

(WTAJ) — While Christmas movies take over TV and streaming, there are a few cult classic films that focus on Thanksgiving.

If you want to watch holiday movies, three cult classics focus on Thanksgiving, while most holiday films focus on Christmas.

You can “weeze the juice” while you travel the country with John Candy to get home for Thanksgiving — or you can go on a road trip to get your fiancé’s spoiled teenager.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles:

Planes, Trains and Automobiles has become a cult classic. The film features Steve Martin and John Candy. Martin runs into Candy as he tries to get home from New York to Chicago to spend Thanksgiving with his wife and two kids. Clearly, the comedy ensues from both actors in the first few minutes when they meet.

Truly, a Thanksgiving film worth watching.

The film also has a classic cameo from Flashdance/Tremors superstar Kevin Bacon in the first few minutes.

Planes, Trains and Automobiles can be found streaming on Paramount+, MGM+ and Amazon Prime.

Son-in-Law:

We’re going to “weeze the juice” here with 1993’s “Son In Law” featuring Pauly Shore. A classic “fish out of water” tale that caught on with Millennials.

Pauly Shore was hot off “Encino Man,” featuring Brendan Frasier as a caveman brought back to life in the 1990s, with Sean Astin from the 1980s film The Goonies.

Son-in-law features Shore and Carla Gugino in starring roles. Lane Smith, from My Cousin Vinny and the soon-to-be Perry Smith from Lois and Clark, plays a major role too. Shore stars as a hipster resident advisor who falls in love with Gargino while at her parents’ farm over Thanksgiving break. The California hipster lights up the screen as he tries to make the California scene mesh with the all-American country folk.

Oh, by the way, have you seen The Sandlot? “The Great HAMbino” plays Gugino’s younger brother.

Son-in-Law can be found on various streaming services; however, it’s not included with any streaming subscriptions.

Dutch:

In the late 1980s, Al Bundy was a household name, thanks to the smash hit sitcom ‘Married… with Children.’

Roughly four seasons into the 11-season series, Ed O’Neill jumped to the big screen. He played a blue-collar construction business owner who decided to travel from Chicago to Georgia to pick up his girlfriend’s son, played by Ethan Embry (Vegas Vacation, Sneaky Pete), to bring him home for Thanksgiving with him and the kid’s mother.

Hilarity ensues as the duo struggles to connect and end up in a homeless shelter, as the Prep School all-star learns a lot about life and compassion.

Dutch also features Christopher McDonald (Shooter McGavin from Happy Gilmore) and E.G. Daily, who voiced a slew of animated characters in the ’90s, including Tommy Pickles of the Rugrats.

Unfortunately, Dutch is unavailable on streaming at this time.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Everyone loves a good Charlie Brown movie, show, or comic. Snoopy, Linus, Lucy, Woodstock… The gang has been celebrating Thanksgiving every year since 1973. It’s a classic for adults and a fun intro to the older cartoons for today’s kids.

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving is available to stream on Apple+ with a subscription.
