Directed by Anthony Minghella, the psychological thriller, based on the 1955 novel by Patricia Highsmith, stars Matt Damon as Tom Ripley, Jude Law as Dickie Greenleaf, and Gwyneth Paltrow as Marge Sherwood. The story centers on themes such as identity theft, deception, and psychological manipulation.

The Netflix premiere is part of a wider December 2025 lineup that includes new originals, holiday films, international series, and high-profile licensed titles. Other key releases for the month include Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 (December 25), Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (December 12), and the return of Emily in Paris for its fifth season.

The film follows Tom Ripley, a young man in New York City who accepts an offer to travel to Italy to convince Dickie Greenleaf to return home. Ripley becomes infatuated with Dickie’s lifestyle, ultimately killing him and assuming his identity. The film received five Academy Award nominations.
