Universal Orlando’s highly anticipated fourth park — Epic Universe — officially opened to the public in May, bringing guests immersive experiences inspired by classic horror films, Nintendo video games, the “How to Train Your Dragon” movies and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
The new theme park is located at Universal’s new south campus, about 15 minutes from Universal Orlando’s Islands of Adventure, Universal Studios, and Universal Orlando’s CityWalk dining, retail, and entertainment complex.
It boasts 30 unique dining locations offering a wide variety of items, from immersive culinary feats to authentic staples for different cultures.
There are 11 rides at Epic Universe, which may not sound like a lot, but there’s much more to Epic Universe than rides, including live entertainment and shows, character meetings, interactive activities, and highly themed foods.
What are all the ‘portals’ at Epic Universe?
- Celestial Park – The first-world guests will encounter when entering the park. Celestial Park will also be the gateway to Epic Universe’s four other worlds, accessed by themed portals.
- How to Train Your Dragon – Isle of Berk – Will give fans of the “How to Train Your Dragon” franchise a chance to finally soar like Hiccup, Astrid and their fellow Dragon Riders do on screen.
- Dark Universe – Guests can expect to “encounter everything from the experiments of Dr. Victoria Frankenstein to the shadowy landscape where monsters roam in a world of myth and mystery.”
- Super Nintendo World – Brings guests into the fan-favorite video game franchise for adventures with Mario, Princess Peach, and more, like at Universal Studios Hollywood.
- The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic will blend “1920s wizarding Paris from Warner Bros. Pictures’ ‘Fantastic Beasts’ films with the iconic British Ministry of Magic from the Harry Potter series,” according to Universal Orlando, which is already home to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Hogsmeade and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley

Please note: It’s not right next to the other Universal Orlando theme parks. It is located about 4 miles away from Universal’s “north campus”— which includes Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and CityWalk. This might mean a 13 to 15-minute drive for visitors.
There will be complimentary transportation between Epic Universe and the other parks.
