Just days after the shooting death of Maria De La Rosa, a popular young Latin singer, in Los Angeles, police there have arrested three men.
TMZ reported that Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said that Francisco Otilio Gayton, 27, Benny LiconGomez, 27, and Eduardo Lopez, 21, have each been charged with one count of felony murder and two felony counts of attempted second-degree robbery. Gayton and LiconGomez are in custody, per TMZ, and a warrant is out for Lopez.
The outlet said that bail for Gayton has been set at $2.18 million while LiconGomez’s bail is $2.28 million. Lopez’s bail is slated to be set at $2.205 million when he is taken into custody.
Per TMZ, Hochman said the men approached the car with De La Rosa, who performs under the name of DELAROSA, and two other individuals at around 1:25 a.m. Saturday in Northridge. They are accused of demanding money before opening fire and killing the singer.
“This was a ruthless and targeted attack that stole the life of a young woman and artist and inflicted profound lifelong trauma on her family and the two survivors,” Hochman said per TMZ.
TMZ said the men are facing life in prison without the possibility of parole.
“Witnesses described seeing two male suspects approach a vehicle that was parked on Bryant Street,” the LAPD said in a statement per KTLA. “Multiple rounds were fired at several victims who were parked in the area in their vehicle.”
KTLA said that De La Rosa released a new single in August called “No Me Llames” which translates to “Don’t Call Me’ in English.
She is the second young Latin singer to be killed in recent months, after Fede Dorcaz was shot and killed in Mexico City in October.
He was 29.
The Hollywood Reporter said that Dorcaz was preparing to appear on the dancing reality show Las Estrellas Bailan en Hoy, which was to air on Monday. The outlet said that he left rehearsals, and his car was “intercepted by two people on motorcycles.” They reportedly shot at Dorcaz at least three times, with one shot hitting him in the neck causing him to die instantly.
