Singer, actor and popular host Sophie Choudry recently turned host at the grand Udaipur wedding of US billionaire’s daughter Netra Mantena, who got married to Vamsi Gadiraju. While she shared photos from the star-studded celebrations – including a special backstage moment with Jennifer Lopez – Sophie also found herself responding to trolls who questioned her career and longevity in Bollywood.
Sophie posted a picture with JLo, calling the global star her long-time inspiration. She wrote, “Jennifer Lopez, an artist I absolutely adore and have been hugely inspired by for more than two decades! Her on-stage fire, her discipline, her music videos, her style, so many of her films just iconic!”
However, an X user soon questioned how she had “survived in Bollywood” without films, web shows or songs in recent years. Sophie replied with confidence and clarity, saying, “Through the live show market. I’ve been one of the busiest live singer-performers for 17 years for corporate and wedding shows and am the number one female host for live events. Just because you don’t see me on screen doesn’t mean I haven’t made my place elsewhere. In India, unless you are in the top 10 actresses, you don’t make money. I realised that a long time ago, and thank God for that.”
Another troll claimed she posed with Jennifer Lopez by “begging” for a picture, prompting Sophie to shut down the negativity. She responded, “Such a sad mentality you have. I feel sorry for you. I have never begged for anything in my life. I requested, and she kindly obliged because I was the host of the show. It’s not every day you get to meet your idol and tell them how much you admire them. But clearly you wouldn’t know what that is. Too much negativity.”
Jennifer Lopez delivered a power-packed concert at the Udaipur wedding, performing hits like Waiting for Tonight, Get on the Floor and Ain’t Your Mama. The pre-wedding festivities also featured performances by Ranveer Singh, Varun Dhawan, Shahid Kapoor, Janhvi Kapoor and Nora Fatehi.
Sophie Choudry, a British-Indian singer, actor, VJ and performer has had a dynamic career across music, television and live entertainment. Starting out as a backup singer for Shweta Shetty and Alisha Chinai, she later formed the girl band Sansara before moving to India in 2003.
