CLEVELAND, Ohio – Multiple stars from “Gilmore Girls” have voiced support for a holiday-themed reunion, though series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino has not announced official plans for the project, Parade reports.
Lauren Graham, who played Lorelai Gilmore, has emerged as the idea’s strongest advocate. During an appearance on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in August, she pitched a Christmas movie modeled after British holiday specials.
“You get to visit your characters, and it’s holiday, and it’s, you know, it’s sentimental, but it’s not like a whole reboot of the whole thing,” Graham said. “So that is my idea that has been sanctioned by no one.”
Graham reiterated her openness to the concept in a fall interview with the Hollywood Reporter, comparing her vision to other concluded series that have reunited for special occasions.
“I’ve been saying for a long time what I could see making sense is a Christmas movie in the tradition of ‘Downton Abbey’ or those other kinds of shows that are over but then kind of come together, especially around the holidays,” she told the outlet. “I think that would be very Gilmore friendly.”
Kelly Bishop, who portrayed Emily Gilmore, addressed the possibility during a November interview on the “In Her Words” podcast. She indicated that Sherman-Palladino holds the key to any revival moving forward.
“Well, it all really ultimately depends initially with Amy, and I think that she’s open to it,” Bishop said. “And I think Lauren [Graham] is… And I would always be interested in doing it.”
Sally Struthers, who played Babette Dell, expressed similar enthusiasm in the upcoming documentary “Drink Coffee, Talk Fast,” according to Screen Rant.
“What’s happening in Stars Hollow for Christmas? It would be really nice to visit everybody,” Struthers said.
The beloved series aired its original run before returning for a four-part revival nearly a decade ago, Parade noted.
